Open House Review: 42 Oakfield

Today I am reviewing the San Mateo model of Stonegate at 42 Oakfield, which is a detached condominium.  It is an end-unit with a small, public grass area that kids could play on, immediately to the right of the home. The property backs to an internal non-residential street, but I believe it is a low traffic street.  At least I did not pass any cars the way in nor did I hear any while I was at the Open House and the street only leads to the residential streets.

The basics:
Asking Price: $799,000
Bedrooms: 3
Bathrooms: 2.5
Square Footage: 1,729
$/Sq Ft: $ 462
Property Type: Condominium
Year Built: 2012
Community: Stonegate
HOA: $110/month

The front door is located closest to the street, at the front of row of homes that resembles a mini-cul-de-sac. Upon entering, the staircase is to the right with the coat closet located on the first staircase landing, a couple steps up.  A wide hallway sits in front of you with a guest bathroom and the garage entrance. Light carpet leads into the family room, as well us up the stairs and throughout the second floor.  Vinyl floors are found in the kitchen, bathrooms and laundry room.

The guest bathroom is simple with a small window and pedestal sink.  It is in excellent condition and has a door leading into a low slanted ceiling storage closet that might be good for boxes or luggage.

The great room consists of the kitchen, living room and dining room.  The living room is located to the right, with large windows bringing in an abundance of light.  The living room is cozy and a standard size.

The kitchen island separates the two spaces.  There is space for bar seating at the island.  Immediately to the left is a built-in desk with a set of upper cabinets. The kitchen has white cabinetry, granite countertops and backsplash and stainless steel appliances.  There are plenty of cabinets for storage but the kitchen lacks a true floor to ceiling pantry, however the extra cabinetry next to the oven provides some extra storage space that, put altogether, acts like a pantry space. The dining area is located to the side of the kitchen, flowing seamlessly into the area.  It can accommodate a decent size table.

A sliding glass door leading to the backyard is found off of the dining room.  The back patio area is more spacious in comparison to other condominiums in the area.  With most of the yard hardscaped, there is a designated area that could fit a table and bar-b-que.  Atlhough lacking any grass,  plants and trees are planted, lining the cinder block wall. The space feels more spacious and private without a home backing against and overlooking the yard.

After walking up the carpeted stairs, the master bedroom is the first doorway.  It is a nice size room with plenty of natural light.  The windows look out over the patio and out to the internal non-residential street.  A privacy door leads into the bathroom.  The bathroom has natural light coming in through the window which sits between the two dual sink’s mirrors.  The cabinetry and countertops are white, with a basic white backsplash.  On the far end is the spacious walk-in closet.  Across from the dual sinks is a tub/shower combination with white tile surround.  It is definitely an advantage to have a privacy door to keep noise and light to a minimum from the sleeping area.

A laundry room sits next to the master bedroom.  There is space for a washer and dryer, with a set of white cabinets above.

The shared bathroom is basic with white cabinetry, white countertops, and white tile in the tub/shower combo surround and is in excellent, clean condition.

The two secondary bedrooms are similar in size and each comes with dual door closets. One is slightly larger than the other.

The home is in move-in condition.  It is an advantage to be at the end of a cul-de-sac street with minimal traffic.  The home is nicely situated close to the amenities and elementary school.  Some people prefer more separation between the master bedroom and the secondary bedrooms, but the home has a nice flow and a larger yard compared to some of the condominiums in the neighborhood.  It is also a big plus that the condominium is detached.
