Check out the Friends of the Library bookstore out of the Newport Beach central library at 1000 Avocado.  Some really nice hardcover books there for $1, $2, or $3.  Good place for to pick up a cheap hardcover to read or for a gift as affluent people buy many hardcover books, read them once, then donate them to the library bookstore.
