was wondering if anyone happens to know of a restaurant that serves a great black cod dish… my wife told me about the black cod dish at a restaurant called aqua in san francisco that she had a few years ago, and i have been trying to find a comparable dish down here in oc/la(she happens to like black cod as her favorite fish)... according to their website, their black cod dish is described as:
Black Cod
Lotus, Bok Choy, Peking Duck Jus

so if anyone knows of any spot that might have something comparable, please post it up here! thanks

That restaurant takes their inspiration from Chinese provincial village style cooking. Lotus root and bok choy combination are usually exotic dishes for the Chinese New Year.

The fusion style cusine I am afraid is one of a kind recipe and not something that is common like Kung Pao.

Try Roy’s.  http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5114034/

That’s assuming you want a Black Cod dish and not the specific Lotus/Bok Choy/Black Cod dish.

Chowhound has a whole thread on restaurant’s with Black Cod dishes.

Only place that I can recall having black cod in OC at was the Golden Truffle. I could be wrong, but I could swear I had it there. It may not be in the style you want, but it will be the fish you want.

If Michael Mina was the chef at Aqua at the time, you might try contacting the Stonehill Tavern at the St. Regis in Dana Point (which is one of his restaurants), and see if they can point you in the right direction.  I would suggest calling after lunch, but before dinner on a weekday and asking for the manager.

Also, this isn’t quite what she’s looking for, but here is a black cod recipe from his website.

A couple other things I forgot about:

1.  this Mark Bittman “recipe” for Miso black cod; and
2.  that Zipangu in Costa Mesa serves black cod miso that is pretty good.  I think their sister restaurant in Irvine, Ayame, might, but not currently (call ahead to check).

Of course, these are Japanese, and, as BK noted, it sounded like a Chinese dish, so YMMV.
