What the heck is a drive-through clinic?? Do you just stick your arm out the window?

For the kids they have a line that forms separately inside, as moving vehicles and strangers with needles leaning in don’t work very well for them.

I think that’s called the cry-through clinic.

So this morning, just out of curiosity (my son is too young to get the mist), I drove by the H1N1 kids’ vaccine clinic they were having at Irvine Valley College. The clinic was supposed to start around 10am, and I was there right around that time. Let me tell you, it was nuts. Crazy crowded. Police were directing traffic into the parking lot. I checked out the line of people waiting, and it stretched all the way around the college. There were hundreds of people there. I wonder if they ran out of vaccine?

Got H1N1 mist/spray for the kids at Irvine Valley college today. Both were in the age group that it was offered to. We went around 11.30 am, and there were around 20 people. Almost no wait at all except for the two minute disclaimer speech that we had to stand and listen to before getting the vaccination.
No flu shots yet.. my doctor doesn’t have any available till December. We have to get a booster shot for the H1N1 next month.
Socal, thanks for posting the link.

Wow, that’s surprising! I’m glad it was so easy for you. When I was there earlier, the line was horrendous!

This gives me hope that once the injectable version is available, they will have more clinics and it won’t be too bad.

I am reminded of the South Park episode with the SARS scare… and the cure being chicken noodle soup.  If you have seen this episode, I’m sure you know what I’m talking about.

Just got back from the pediatrician and it seems that many cases of flus right now are most likely to be H1N1.

It’s to be treated like the normal flu and should work itself out, but just be wary of the high-risk cases like babies, pregnant woman, elderly and anyone with respiratory concerns.

She said they tend not to test most cases because by the time the culture would come back (the current wait is 5-7 days), the flu would have been gone. The rapid test can tell you if it’s Influenza A but even a negative result on that test isn’t 100% accurate that you still don’t have H1N1. They just make sure they watch the high-risk demographics and if flu symptoms re-arise within the 7-day period to come back immediately.

A friend’s son tested positive for H1N1 a few weeks back, but it was just like a normal flu and he’s fine now.

She did say that because it’s so contagious, to stay home longer than normal not just to rest but to prevent it from spreading further.

Let’s see what I post in a few days.

Fyi, for you other Kaiser fans like the CK family (I guess you either love or hate them), they have been and will continue doing walk-in H1N1 vaccines while supplies last each Tues - Thurs at three clinics in OC:

Euclid
Harbor-Macarther
Mission Viejo

You can call the Kaiser flu shot hotline at 1-866-706-6358 for daily updates on availability by location.  Free for members.  We got our daugther her first dose of H1N1 this past Tuesday at Mission Viejo—- walked in, no wait.  Have to go back again in 30 days for 2nd dose.

Can you pay if you are not a member? Damn PPO’s, no shots available so they’re sending us out to stand in line for free shots. Something is seriously wrong with this picture, we have the most expensive insurance and yet no access. I guess we’re going to battle the crowds in Fullerton tomorrow and hope that we’ll be done before 12:30 so we can get to another commitment on time.

Are they just doing mist? Or is there injectable also?

The flyer I received from my daughter’s school says both. I really think it will be a zoo though because I think all of the schools sent out a flyer and it’s been in the Register for a few days now. I’m going to show up early, look at the line and determine then if we are willing to wait.

So apparently this report wasn’t true, and the Gitmo detainees aren’t getting the shots. I don’t have any links but I read it on a couple of news sites.

Just the mist at Kaiser….which was fine by us because she got the injection for the seasonal a month or so ago—- and I think you are supposed to do the opposite for H1N1 from what you did for seasonal.  But who knows if that is good information or not?

And Tmare, I imagine you could pay for it if you are a non-member (Kaiser never saw a $ they didn’t like), but I’d hate to think of what they would charge….

Don’t know how reliable this is but Google Map is showing locations where flu shots are available.  Just punch in your zip code and call ahead!

That’s great, but too bad every site listed is “temporarily out of stock”. It would be very useful if anyone near actually had it. I’m imagining that this means that no one has it since they listed “Yuba City” as another place near me that is out. Where the hell is Yuba City?

Yuba City is way up north somewhere, near Sacramento, as I recall. I did a report on Yuba City in 4th grade. You know it was voted one of the 10 worst places to live in America one year?

I’m having no luck finding the vaccine either. My son’s pediatrician now thinks they may get it in early December.

Fact: your worrying and stress in the process of obtaining the H1N1 vaccine will be far worse than just forgetting about it and taking a dayquil when you get the H1N1 sniffles.

My boys got dosed this morning with the inhaled version down at Kaiser in Mission Viejo (even though they likely gained exposure and immunity when I had it).  They have it there.

Hope this helps

Once again, tell that to the families of the 8 people who died last week in Orange County. One is the father of a child at a local private school near my house. 50% of the school is reportedly out with H1N1.
