The name is actually “Bird Nest” but for whatever the reason, they put up the sign “Happy Nest” in English.

This place was formally a Taiwanese cafe, but unfortunately the owner passed away and the wife couldn’t continue the business.  It has since been converted to a Shanghai restaurant.

The soup noodles at this restaurant gets a D, but the buns displayed above gets a B from me.  They got the taste of the meat buns correctly, but the skin/texture is a bit unrefined compared to those you’d find in Taiwan.  Never the less, it’s delicious and worth the trip.  Don’t forget Honey Bakery next door for bread.

I’ve tried a few other dishes, Shanghai style sugar and vinegar short ribs.  The flavor is good but again, the texture is a little off for me.

They also serve one of my favorite simple dishes, thinly sliced beef fried with hot chili peppers.

Wow, I never knew why the closed Little Bean!  Thanks for the info, sorry to hear that the wife and daughter weren’t able to continue. I used to eat at Little Bean a lot when I’d visit family in Cerritos.

I was actually in Rowland Heights last night and saw Little Bean and thought they just moved away from Artesia but it turned out to be a Boba house.

The San Zeen Bao at “happy nest” is really delicious.  I’d give them an A-.  When I used to get them at Shanghai style Restaurant on Pioneer, they seemed less greasy though.

I really enjoyed Happy Nest and would go back for sure.  The See Zee Tao (Lion’s head) is good!

Shanghainese food is yummy.
