Why is it called “West Irvine?“

I think it was addressed before. Just a hypothesis, since it is probably a marketing fellow who came out with the name.
Anyway, the historic Irvine proper is near the current I-5 and Sand Canyon, and the West Irvine is sort of west of the Old Town Irvine.
