PM me when you guys go do Nyes place and I’ll come out.

IMHO the funnest Laguna climb is a reverse take on the 7 sisters bluebird/summit climb. You take (from PCH) Alta-Vista -> Mirada - Summit -> Bluebird Canyon. I like it because you get the ocean view and crazy narrow twisty streets. First time up it you’ll be telling yourself “this must be the end of this hill” only to round the corner and see another twisty.

I just did it again today.  It damn near killed me this time.  My chest and upper torso were burning for 20 minutes after.  I had to hang out at the little park at the top to recover.

I might need to stop doing it.  Pushing that hard is really not good for the body.

Ugh, I’ve been kind of out of it with my Sciatic problem…

Last Monday morning I set off to do the Backbay, I rode to the Park ( 3 minutes) then all of a sudden, a Thunderstorm, so not only was my Leg killing me I got soaked into the bargain..

Saturday morning I did half the Backbay with one and a half Legs, then today (Sunday) did the same route but felt much better…problem over I think… red face

Or maybe it was the Advil…hmmm

My favorite hill in Laguna:

Does that run parallel to the PCH? If so, I’ve done it lots of times to miss PCH Traffic..I have to stand all the way up..if thats the same Hill that is?

Notice: The BB loop is closed for re-paving.

We found out the hard way, when they wouldn’t let us through. Peter then led the 7C’s on an “odd"yssey, which amazingly enough got us back to the coffee shop in no time. The 7 C’s are also suffering from late season injuries, but we don’t whine…we ride!

Which part?  I just rode the Newport-facing (east) section last night.

It’s just after the bridge with the wooden planks—the part that makes your teeth chatter as you go clackety clack…

Ahh.  Those of us with real 9-5 jobs don’t have enough daylight to ride the entire loop and get back home before it’s too dark.  raspberry

I live further away and have a busy intersection to cross.  At best, I’d get home right at sunset.

Our Saturday ride will be out to Laguna Beach. We’re gonna get some climbing practice in and earn our pastry stop.
PM PeterUK for details if you want to come along.

San Marco Park, Irvine to Laguna Beach post-ride report

So, last Saturday, Oct 11th Prof and I met at the Park, OK, I was late, so we rolled out at 7:45 am thanks to the snooze Button…

It was pretty chilly, 53 degrees when I left Home but the sun was out and we set off at a good pace to warm up, we had to be at Scania Bakery at 9:00am to met Vicstah and his lovely SO…

The ride was pretty uneventful around the Backbay, onto Jamboree, a small climb to the Lights at PCH and a left turn, it always pretty dicey crossing 4 lanes, uphill, trying to beat the Traffic to the left-turn lane but obviously we made it…

There were a LOT of Riders out as usual but we weren’t expecting to see quite as many as we did in Corona Del Mar, we ran up against the MS 150, which takes the Riders all the way down to San Diego, they were a friendly Bunch and looked like they were having a good time, they were riding all kinds of Bikes from Hybrid to Mountain to Road..
We didn’t want to stay behind or amongst them for too long so at every opportunity, if the Traffic was clear, we would pull out into the Traffic lane and pass them in groups, problem was, there were HUNDREDS of them..plus they were riding 5 abreast at some point…

But it was a lovely morning, sunny and cool, Crystal Cove is always an awesome view, I’m sure one Day I’m gonna crash along there because I can’t keep my eyes on the road, so anyway, after a couple of small rolling Climbs we decended down into Laguna Beach..we made it at exactly 9:00am…

Our first thought, was, “where’s Vic? He’s buying” we always stop at Scandia Bakery for Coffee and Pastries…“Let me call Him, I’m hungry” I said “Hey VIC!! where ARE you”? He was still 20 minutes away, no problem, I then saw a Guy I met a couple of weeks previous at that spot, we got chatting that Day and spent over an hour there…

But here’s the amazing part of the whole ride, Prof bought Coffee and pastries!!! you really missed out Vicstah!! Never mind, it’s your turn next time..

Anyway, I had to get back home and get ready for work, this invlolved riding up Laguna Canyon, through Quail Hill and onto Alton, it could also involve getting a flat tire, so I had to leave…

We invited Bill, our new Friend to ride back up the Canyon with us, he is a great Guy and very funny, a very strong rider too!

Prof and Her surprize attacks
She’s very crafty, here’s her tactics…

1. Pretend to fall off the back
2. wait for us to slow down while we waited for her to re-group.
3. Then she waits for us to start soft peddaling and get involved in a conversation, then She hits the Hammer and zooms past..

We’re then out of the Saddle trying to catch up again, she did this several times and every time she caught us out, I think she learned this from Robbie McKewan, the world class sprinter who’s team lead him up to the sprint then he slingshots out from the back to win with a sprint…

Bill happily took all Prof’s abuse, she flipped Him off several times, it was great to beable to enjoy the ride while someone else listened to her yap, plus we took Him into new territory and a new level in road biking… cool smile

OK, so I made the last part up, but all in all it was a fantastic ride…

i believe that particular maneuver is known as the Shake ‘N’ Bake.

The plan for Saturday’s ride is coming together. Sounds like it will be quite an adventure. Send a PM to Pete if you want details or check back on this thread.
Vic, bring extra cash, buddy. You’ll need it.

The Sunday Laguna ride began bright and early at 7:30 this morning. It was a bit windy and sunny as we set out. It wasn’t long before disaster struck. My back wheel was pierced by an evil piece of metal. PM and I set about changing the tire on Laguna Canyon Rd. We accomplished the task quickly and efficiently…or so we thought. We must have missed something because the second tire blew out right away, with an impressive bang, leading to temporary deafness in PM’s right ear.

A passing cyclist came to our aid. Thanks, Robert! He even gave us his own tube, as we had exhausted our own supply.

The rest of the rde was delightful and uneventful.

Bring her or them along. We welcome new riders. Just try to remember their names, so we know what to call the new girls.

But they won’t have any energy left to ride with us Prof if all the rumours I’ve heard about Eff are true..
