That’s awesome eff! I’ve been meaning to try the CCW direction one of these days..sounds like shay did great for her first time…

The climbs are easier in the CCW direction.  Also, Cook’s Corner as almost at the halfway point and you can refill your bottles there.

That’s true, although I’ve never done it that way, I always envy those that do though, it always looks like they’re having much more fun as they pass in the opposite direction…

One time I did this run I got really sick with Flu/Bronchitis, I was fine when I started the ride, there were about 12 of us, I was soooo sick by the time I reached Cooks Corner I couldn’t do the Climb up that road behind Cooks, I can’t remember what it’s called, a really nice Guy offered to ride home with me back to Irvine and I gladly accepted, half way back I just wanted to get off the Bike and sleep in the Grass… sick

Good write-up Peter.

Next time I go riding with you and Prof will have to be on Halloween, since its the only time I won’t feel guilty for joining in and eating buckets of ice cream and other junk food…Here’s an idea—how about an on-the-bike eating contest. We can have a sag vehicle pass out ice cream and chocolate bananas with sprinkles the whole way down to DP and the first to keel over and slam into a parked car loses!

Hmmm, making fun of us on this thread, and yet on another thread:

“Golden (s)Poon is way more technologically advanced when it comes to serving ice cream as they use polystyrene thermal insulation (aka styrophoam). Most people don’t think about the thermodynamics of eating ice cream, but well, its a shame to waste good ice cream, and nobody likes gummy bear soup!“

So, don’t pretend you are Mr. Healthfood, POITG!

I just want modern science to yield a brain freeze preventative for when I eat it too quickly.  Is that too much to ask?

Eff, I think POITG was refering to my Dana Point write-up which was of course greatly exagerated…in fact our 7C’s ride reports have become more and more outlandish as time goes by….I’m constantly making fun of People (that I like)....

Yeah but at least I don’t eat my ice cream on bike rides…

I saw the 7Cs ice cream truck sag wagon on the street today today and took a photo…

Hey POITG, did we ever mention our Lunchtime SAG stop? Home of the triple bypass Burger…

I just wish Prof wouldn’t insist on getting in on all our Pictures all the time…she’s such a show off ....so annoying ...and we’ve been trying to tell her that elite Cyclists do NOT wear Nurses uniforms on a Bike, why, she’s not even a NURSE!! It just looks really silly don’t you think? To be Frank, I’m getting tired of it.
Grow up Prof!!

Peetah!  Do you know of a local source for DT Competition or Wheelsmith DB14 spokes?  I just popped a drive-side spoke and I want to respoke that entire side of the wheel….

The 7 C’s are planning a big ride Saturday morning…fully supported by our SAG vehicle, of course. Check back for route information and meeting time.

Nye’s Place.  20% grade.  Lemon Heights, move over, now there’s something meatier!

“When you roll into Nyes Place it’s like looking at a wall...and damn near impossible to resume pedaling if you stop for any reason. Hats off to those who attempt it and those who clean it - it’s quite an accomplishment.“

Wow, sounds like the 7 C’s have a new playground. Eff, didya do this? Please post any helpful route details.

I’ve rode by Nye’s Place quite a few times on the way back from Dana Point Harbor. It’s a pretty ridiculous climb from what I can tell.

I dun it, but I have a secret weapon in the form of an itty-bitty chainring.  I think the average semi-serious cyclist could clean it just fine on an MTB but doesn’t stand a chance on a typical road-bike.

Oh, Peter: Shaun from Sand Canyon totally hooked me up.  I re-spoked the drive side with 14/15/14’s and the wheel is doing great.  They didn’t have black spokes in my size in stock….. So I now have a 32h wheel with every other spoke silver and black.  Bling-Bling!

That’s cool Eff! Glad they could help you out…

What size is your itty-bitty chainring? the smallest I have is a 34…do you think I could make that speed bump called Nyes place on that?  cool grin

If you say no I’m gonna have to try it… vampire

It’s 24T.  The steepest section is a few hundred yards long… Perhaps you can stand for the whole thing?

I’m a strong climber for a only a short period of time… My muscles routinely write a check that my cardiopulmonary system can’t cash.
