I still need to take a mini vaca out to the area to check it out.
Are there any excursions, site seeing areas or restaurants that are “must-do”?

You know Cal, the only thing I do when I go to P.S. is relax.  I enjoy getting up early and walking to the coffee shop before it gets too warm, then lounging by the pool reading a book.  It’s so quiet and at nighttime you can actually see stars ! (Can’t see more than 10 where I live)  Golfing choices galore.

The pace is slow, that’s what I like about it.  It just feels like an escape.

Even though I haven’t tried it, I hear the tram ride up the mountain is great (but bring a jacket, because it’s freezing up there).

And that cute, little bungalow…..  Oh, and all the Alexanders.

there’s a road by desert hot springs, dillon road, that’s like a roller coaster, up and down, unbelievably fun for a few miles.

My husband has been out there a few times to take clients golfing.
I’ll have to tag along the next time he goes out that way.

Hey, remember that Guy who created the website to sell his House in PS? wonder if he sold it yet?

We used to go there a lot, we had Friends who owned a Condo there..I haven’t been back since the Tour-de-Palmsprings last february, it’s nice there during the winter, nice Restaurants and some nice drives/bike rides…

We went up on the Tram a few years ago, there were Pine Trees and a LOT of snow up there…it’s well worth a Visit…

I wouldn’t steal your dream house from you.  cool smirk
You should take a weekend trip to P.S. and check out the house in person.
I would be curious to know if it’s as nice as it shows in the pictures.

Wow, I just noticed that it’s been on the market for almost a year now.
Zillow has the recent sold date of 4/4/03 at $225k.
Looks like the owners are trying to break even.

That would be a cute place for you.  smile
For the amount of hours you work and the savings discipline you have, you should be able to pay that house off in no time at all.

I’ve just started whaling away at the 1st on my rental in CT.  No $$ leftover for downpayment yet…..

I’m still trying to figure out, at what point if/will it be worth my while to re-fi the CT house.  I’m at 6% 30 yr fixed, but I’m still $190 in the hole a month.  This will get worse when the tax reassements hit sometime in the near future (previous assessment at 180K, now they’re saying it’s 275K, ugh)

My 192,500K 1st has just whittled down to 180K.  Can any math gurus tell me if it would make sense to re-fi at some point….say at 160K….considering the closing costs?  It’s a long term hold and consider it owner occupied for simplicity sake.

At what point would it make sense ?  When the balance hits 160, 150, ....never ?  The numbers are swirling in my head.

And check out the bottom of this realtor’s page. He has added the headings: Notice of Default filed, Real Estate Owned and Short Pay.  LOL !

Troop, if you hit $150k and could get a 30 year fixed rate at 6.5% you would be able to basically break even. But, if your prop taxes go up, maybe not so much. Honestly, I think if you could get a 6% 15 year fixed $150k loan you would be eating nearly the same amount, but paying it off even faster. Just my €2 and they aren’t worth as much lately.

BTW, who is this Petah dude, and why does he think his posts matter? WTF? Making CalGal use paypal to boost his ego…

I love PS.  I love checking out different resorts.  (Note to self:  this hobby is not cheap!).  My son really likes Rancho Las Palmas for the Kidtopia.  It’s certainly the best hotel pool in the area.  A close second is the Grand Champions and the Esmeralda.  I like the Grand Champions a bunch.  They upgraded me for free to a villa - yeehaw!  I also highly recommend going to the Living Desert.  I went hiking there when I was alone, and then checked out the animals when my son was with me.  (Okay, hiking alone in the desert is not a good idea, but a girl’s gotta hike when the spirit moves her.  The hiking club isn’t always there when you need them.)

And last time we were there we went to the airplane museum.  You should go, even if for no other reason than to be able to thank the distinguished elderly veterans who staff the place, for their service to our country and to the Jewish people.

I heard from some folks that the more tony areas of Connecticut are getting hammered because of the Wall Street crisis, a radical decrease in bonuses and layoffs.  Yeah, I know Connecticut is no where close to Palm Springs, but Sarge will read this post here.

That would make sense.  A lot of Wall Street traders and execs live in CT and commute to NY.
I have a family member who is a portfolio manager.
His past bonuses were 100+% of his salary big surprise
He won’t be getting that this year!
And his stock options are basically worthless.
Luckily, he lives way below his means, so his family will be fine.
