Hat tip to Graphrix for pointing out this article to me.  To anyone who watches CNBC and has noticed their new addition, Karen "The Chairwoman" Finerman, here is a great article about her hedge fund and….well….HER.
She’s worth $100m, runs a $400m hedge fund, has two sets of twins and four nannies ... | Woman | The Observer

Great article! I knew it. These fund managers may start off eyeing the money but it eventually becomes a game of bragging rights and who has the biggest ego.

Due to the housing crisis, our PEG decided to get involved with raising money for a new hedge fund. The goal is to raise $400M. A couple of families have already committed $100M and my supervisors are flying overseas this month to make a pitch. It should be interesting because this is my first exposure to hedge funds and being thrown in the middle of one is quite exhilarating. I can only imagine what it’s like on Wall Street.

$400 million?  How in the world do you raise $400 million?  Do you work for this PEG, (private equity group)?

Half way through reading that article. I stopped.  The amount of money discussed was unreal. I couldn’t breathe….Hahaha.

awgee,

400mil is a whole lot of money, but not hard to raise if you’ve got the reputation.

during the savings and loan crisis, the resolution trust corp was formed to liquidate distressed assets.  i heard from someone who worked at a prestigious wall street firm that it started a fund to buy these properties for flipping.  minimum investment: 100mil.  they raised 1bil in a jiffy, and return was so spectacular that they started a second fund with the same minimum.  this time they raised 2bil in as short a time

after a while, you just become numb to these huge numbers

I have tremendous respect for Karen Finerman. She is a woman who is in a business that is typically dominated by men and she has kicked ass and made more money than 90% of the hedge funds out there. I believe the reason she has been so successful is her ability to remain humble. If you watch Fast Money they give her a hard time because she said when she grows up she wants to be an old jewish man like Carl Icahn. She may not be like Carl but damn close and she blushes everytime they bring it up. When they had Carl on the phone he was very flattered by Karen’s admiration. Being humble is a difficult task in life and I know I need to work on that myself.
I think Karen shows that women can do what a man can do and in her case even better. I am sure that some here will think I am saying this to win the hearts of the women here but you can ask Trooper if I am just BSing or not. I hope I can accomplish 1/10th of what Karen has done and strive to go beyond. That is a difficult task and has anyone seen how much she has donated and what boards she is on? I would love to have the ability to contribute the way that she does.

Great article, I’m a huge fan of the Chairwoman and was happy to see her added to the show.  Wish somehow they would have kept the Admiral, Eric Bollinger. Several times they skirt around the subject of her being married. I’m always looking to see if she’s wearing a ring. Great to hear that she’s so well rounded.
