Are there no fans of pizza hut or dominos?

That is so weird, I like the Bay Area more than Irvine (more real).  They have great pizzas in the Bay Area. . .Zachary’s in Oakland, Fat Slices in Berkeley, Amici in SF. . . Uno’s in Oakland.
BTW:  Chicago v. New York?  I like Chicago myself. . .I went to Lombardi’s in NYC and was very disappointed.  Gino’s East is Chicago was everything it was cracked up to be.

The best pizza in OC is "zpizza."  BUT NOT THE ONE ACROSS FROM UCI—it is a different store/chain and the pizza is terrible compared to the real zpizza you can find elsewhere in OC.  For locations of the "real zpizza," check out http://www.zpizza.com/zpizza.php?page=locations

There’s a place in the bay area (mtn view) - Ontillo’s. BEST CHEESE BREAD EVER AND THE DIPPING SAUCE.. DROOOOL.

IC - Zachary’s in Rockridge/Oakland is awesome. Just make sure you go about two hours before you want to eat. It is by far one of the busiest pizza places I have ever been too. If you go up there be sure to go to A Cote in Rockridge. Just phenomenal food with a small but well selected wine list. Gluttony at it’s finest there.

Oggi’s has got some good pizza. They’re not quite in Irvine, but the location in Tustin is pretty close by. Be sure to check out the Italian Stallion. And bring your appetite, cuz their pies are very filling.

Try Sam’s club pizza.  They’re better than Costco.  Cheap but good. =)

i like peppino’s on rockfield and johnnie’s in the orchard hills shopping center.  i used to go to northwoods all the time but haven’t been there in a long time, the quality of the pizza’s was inconsistent, sometimes really good sometimes just okay.

Being the thin crust pizza lovers that we are, our favorites in Irvine are Round Table (but only the one on Alton & Culver), Ray’s, and Gina’s.  If we’re going to step outside the beloved city, we like Empanada Man in Lake Forest, Pizza Dude in Mission Viejo and Julio’s in Artesia.  When in the bay area, Cicero’s in Cupertino is a MUST.  Try the pizza with the Frank’s Hot Sauce - DEEEEEElicious! 

We eat a lot of pizza.

Red Brick Pizza in Quail Hill mall.  Sit outside the store by the fountain for maximum atmosphere - you’re just outside Bacchus wine cellar as well, sometimes there is live music to go with your pizza.

I’ve had pizza there and it was surprisingly good (thin-crust style).

If you guys want to try something different, check out Pizza and Chicken Love Letter at 8891 Garden Grove Blvd, GG.  The fried chicken there isn’t that good, but the specialty pizza is quite interesting.

I have heard good things about Ray’s, but have never been.  I really like Gina’s on Campus, they also have a location in CDM.  The thin crust is significantly better than the regular.

Gina’s and First Class are both solid choices.

Red Brick in the Quail Hill center is inedible and should be avoided at all costs.

Ditto on Red Brick in the District.  How can you screw up pizza?

There is a peppinos in Woodbury Town Center now… I would suggest not trying the Gnocchi

That place in Garden Grove looks good!  Im going to have to try that.  I love hole in the wall places like that.

I dont know if it is that I am starving everytime I eat DiGiornio or that DiGiornio is pretty good to me,  oh wells.

Im pretty easy to please with it comes to food though

There is no issue with Pizza Hut at all, consistent and many choices. They have about every type of crust there is and you can even order online if you don’t want to leave your laptop.

Northwood Pizza. It is an Irvine institution.

And the Z pizza chain? Bleeeaccchhhhhh…... z pizza in UCI is much, much better.

I’ve also been told that Al’s in Costa Mesa has some awesome pizza.

I just heard about Al’s and tried it last week. Not the best, but pretty good and definitely NYC style. I feel kind-of dumb, since it looks like it’s been there forever and I used to live at the Oakwood apartments across the street!  In my defense, right after moving there, I found The Pizza Bakery / Westcliff Pizza, which is great, if not thin-crust.

Also, I was really excited when Johnnie’s NY opened at Orchard Hills, a few blocks from my house. They even had pizza by the slice during the day. Unfortunately, I really haven’t liked anything I’ve had there, and I’ve given the place three or four chances.  I’ll probably try it one more time soon. They’ve been open long enough now that they should be at 100%.

A bit OT, I really like the new Zov’s at Orchard Hills, but it’s a bit too pricey to go there very often.

Not the “best”, but definitely “up there” for Irvine.

I like Papa John’s. Go online and check out the different varieties of pizzas they offer. My favorite alternative to a regular pepperoni is their Spinach Alfredo. Give Haus of Pizza a try .. I know of 2 of them.  Costa Mesa near OCC and Garden Grove near the 22 Fwy.  Both on Harbor.

+1 for Red Brick Pizza over in Quail Hill…I love their hawaiian pizza.

For a Chicago transplant, the pizza situation here in SoCal is pretty dire.  I have tried several of the local pizza places and got a perfectly edible but utterly mediocre pizza (Z Pizza, BJs, etc.).  I didn’t care for Lamppost at all.

Anyone know of a place to get a decent approximation of real, honest-to-goodness Chicago stuffed pizza here in Orange County?
