IRVINE – A man is barricaded inside an Irvine apartment in the 400 block of Hayes Street, surrounded by Irvine police officers and sheriff’s deputies.

Sheriff’s deputies were at the location serving papers in a civil process when they heard a gunshot inside the apartment, said Lt. Henry Boggs of the Irvine Police Department.

The standoff started a around 1 p.m. The deputies were at the front door when they heard the single gunshot.

SWAT negotiators have tried to make contact with the man, but had not been successful as of 3 p.m., Boggs said

Police have set up a mobile command post a few blocks away, at Yale Avenue and the I-5, Boggs said.

Police have set up a perimeter several blocks wide. There are around 40 squad cars on scene, along with an armored car, a SWAT team, and a helicopter.

Police have received no threats of explosives, Boggs said.

Irvine High School, a little more than a half mile away on the other side of the I-5, reportedly went on lockdown, but that was not at police request, Boggs said.

I erroneously stated that a user had reposted the now infamous Santelli rant. I was wrong. The youtube post that a user posted is a different Santelli rant where he defends himself against comments made by Press Secretary Robert Gibbs. I watched the first 15 seconds and erroneously assumed that it was the same clip, which it isn’t.

Just wondering if anyone has upgraded to Microsoft’s latest offering for Windows? I am pretty happy with XP and never “upgraded” to Vista. My inclination is to save to the $120 and stay with XP until I get a new computer.

BTW: Just to stir up a hornet’s nest: MACs ARE NOT BETTER!!! Better commercials but not a better operating system. Have a nice day

Just checked out a few netbooks. I am in the market for a laptop, but totally fell in love with the little cuties since I don’t run any software on my machine, and all I need is Word/ Excel and internet with google services. Does anyone own a netbook? Any idea why they are better/ worse than the conventional laptop?

The ones I can think of is the strain on fingers with the tiny keyboard. As it is I have carpel tunnel syndrome, and I assume this will make it worse.
Please share your thoughts.
